24 year-old man and a passenger arrested after high speed police pursuit leads to crash on Old U.S. 27 in Calhoun County, Michigan

A Kalamazoo man now faces several charges after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase on the east side of Calhoun County and then crashing. The chase started in the westbound lanes of the highway near 26 Mile Road near Albion around 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, according to a release from Michigan State Police. Troopers chased a 2014 Hyundai that was going faster than 125 mph. The driver of the Hyundai then exited the highway at 22 1/2 Mile Road and headed toward Marshall. The driver continued to speed and passed other cars in a no-passing zone, MSP says. More troopers joined the chase. Then, MSP says, the suspect driver tried to ram an MSP K9 unit. He narrowly missed hitting the police vehicle. He then turned north on to Old US-27, where he eventually lost control and collided with a Michigan Department of Transportation vehicle in the driver’s side door. The driver, a 24-year-old from Kalamazoo, and a passenger were then taken into custody. MSP says the driver will be charged with fleeing and eluding, and was already wanted on outstanding warrants for fleeing and eluding, fraud, and resisting and obstructing. The driver and passenger from the MDOT vehicle were hospitalized with minor injuries.
