Lafayette boy critically injured on boy scout ski trip

“He’s a really awesome young man, and we’re just really grateful he’s alive, and recovering and doing as well as he is,” said Crum.
A 12-year-old Indiana boy was critically injured Saturday when his scarf became enmeshed in a tow rope at Bittersweet Ski Resort in Otsego. Samuel Root, of Lafayette, Indiana, was skiing with his boy scout troop when his scarf got stuck in a tow rope and dragged him until the rope was jammed. Root was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo and was placed in a medically-induced coma. On Sunday morning, Root was awake and was taken off the ventilator.
