"Then the semi-truck sort of jackknifed into the right line, blocking both lanes of traffic, and struck the school bus and the blue (Kia) vehicle traveling in the right lane," Christie said.
The initial crash happened when a white Ford Excursion, pulling a utility trailer, lost control in the left lane, spun out and was struck by a semitrailer. The school bus was then rear-ended by a white Chrysler minivan. A female passenger in the Kia was the patient taken to the hospital. The bus headed back to Madison High School with 41 students and four staff members, who were returning from a visit to Western Michigan University at the time of the crash. Two students were treated at the scene as a precautionary measure but no serious injuries were reported.
