Teen killed, 3 hospitalized in Cass County crash
Witnesses told police that a pickup truck traveling eastbound on Pine Lake Street ran a stop sign and hit a northbound vehicle.
The impact of the crash caused the northbound vehicle to leave the road and overturn before coming to rest on its top.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, identified by police as 16-year-old Makayla McKenzie of Edwardsburg, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her two passengers, 16-year-old Camryn Raab and 17-year-old Hannah Philpot both from Edwardsburg, were injured and taken to the hospital.

Jeffrey Robert Jackson of Niles pleaded no contest to two moving violations causing death and serious impairment, according to the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office. The charges carry a one-year and 93-day sentence respectively.
