A 20-year-old woman was hit and killed by a vehicle in Columbia Heights overnight.

A 20-year-old woman was hit and killed by a vehicle in Columbia Heights overnight.

Police say the woman was hit on the 4400 block of University Avenue Northeast near 44th Avenue Northeast around 1:55 a.m. Thursday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the victim is a 32-year-old Fridley woman, who wasn't injured. No foul play is suspected, and police say the driver stopped.

It’s unclear what led to the crash, but police are investigating. No other details have been released.

I am Tyra's uncle and would like to thank the driver for stopping and cooperating with the investigation. This does not always happen in many situations and typically leave the family of the victim in anger, outrage and looking for closure. We, the family realize that this was a horrible accident, and without knowing all of the details, we truly appreciate knowing that the driver was not a coward but stopped and helped to resolve the accident. I was really sad because that was my aunt who was killed I was crying all day and now we have her daughter with us right now RIP aunty Tyra and that was her name TYRA love you
