Pedestrian killed after being hit by a Gulfport officer
Gulfport police confirm that a pedestrian has died after being hit by a Gulfport police car on Highway 49 around 6 p.m.
According to Sgt. Joshua Bromen with the Gulfport Police Department, the accident occurred Thursday evening near Walmart by Airport Road.
Witnesses say the victim was trying to cross the road after getting food at Arby's when a police car going at a high rate of speed without sirens hit the person, causing them to flip into the air.

Biloxi Police Chief John Miller said investigators are preparing to do a complete accident reconstruction, part of which will be done at the scene. Miller said if the highway has to close for the reconstruction, it will only be for a short time.
