Carlie Nichols, 17, a student at Murrah High School, killed, Victoria Price, injured, airlifted to hospital, after their car leaves the I-55 roadway and overturns near Grenada.

According to Grenada Police, a 2005 Nissan Altima was traveling north on I-55 around 6:35pm Monday night.

The driver of the car, Carlie Nichols, age 17, lost control and officials believe the car flipped several times. The passenger, Victoria Price, was flown to a Memphis hospital. Nichols was pronounced dead on the scene. Both girls are from the Jackson area. Nichols was a student at Murrah High School.

Witness statements say the car was traveling close to the speed limit.

The Grenada Police Department says both girls were wearing seatbelts.
