Rankin County deputies have identified the victim in Sunday evening's hit-and-run collision on Highway 49 as 44-year-old Phil Landrum of Dublin, Ga., who remains in critical condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. The driver of a 2013 gray Nissan passenger car struck Landrum while crossing Highway 49. Witnesses at the scene told deputies the suspect's vehicle continued north on Highway 49. The impact of the crash threw Landrum several feet down the highway. Police stopped 43-year-old Robert D. Watson of Ridgeland a short time later, after he had stopped to see his vehicle's damage. Watson is behind bars in the Rankin County Jail, charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and felony DUI resulting in death or disfigurement with no bond.
