Investigators have determined how a maintenance worker was killed at the City of Springfield's trash landfill on Wednesday. The Springfield Police Dept. says John Choate, 53, became pinned between a truck trailer as it backed up to a piece of equipment. The Springfield Police Dept. says this marks the seventh fatality accident in Springfield for 2016. The Department of Environmental Services, which oversees the landfill, will complete an internal review of the incident. Choate was taken to a local hospital, but died from his injuries a short time later.

The Springfield Police Department said Thursday that a city worker who died after an accident at the city's trash landfill was crushed. Police say the semi truck and trailer were hauling refuse to the landfill for a private company. Police lumped it in with other traffic crashes and said its the seventh fatality crash in Springfield this year. The landfill is on Noble Hill, 10 miles north of the city next to Missouri 13. Police says a semi truck towing a trailer, driven by a man from Greenfield, was backing up when Choate was pinned between the trailer and a piece of equipment.
