The patrol said Sanchez was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala when the vehicle entered the ditch then came back onto the highway traveling northwest. The car crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1994 GMC pickup driven by Turpitt.

The Nebraska State Patrol says two people are dead and a young girl injured following the head-on crash of a car and a pickup on state Highway 39 in Platte County. The patrol says a young girl in Turpitt's vehicle was taken to a hospital. The crash killed 40-year-old Maggie Turpitt, of Genoa, and 24-year-old Daniel Sanchez, of Cedar Rapids. The car crossed the center line and collided head-on with the pickup driven by Turpitt. The patrol says Sanchez was driving the car and overcorrected after entering a ditch.
