Update: Fatal Crash Driver Charged With Motor Vehicle Homicide
He was arrested near the scene and on Tuesday, County Attorney Don Kleine announced that he was charging Ayers with felony motor vehicle homicide, felony leaving the scene of a personal injury crash causing death and possession of a controlled substance.
At around 2:25 p.m., a vehicle driven by Justin Ayers that was traveling at an estimated 100 mph struck a white sedan driven by Kathleen Benes. The impact of the crash forced her vehicle across the median where it was struck again by a silver pickup truck, driven by Teresa Schultz. Benes died in the crash, and Schultz was hospitalized with a possible leg fracture. Ayers was arrested about four blocks from the scene of the accident.
