John Ruiu, the 89-year-old city man who was struck by the car that slammed into a Wendy's last month, has died.

"It was really bad. There was blood all over the wall," the Jersey City resident said. "I was just thinking 'What if I had been out there?' Because I was going to go out there. I feel bad for the guy who got hurt."

JOHN P. RUIU John P. Ruiu, 89, of Bayonne passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9th at the Jersey City Medical Center from injuries sustained from a tragic automobile accident at the Wendy's restaurant in Bayonne on February 19th.

Garcia did not face criminal charges and was only cited for careless driving, which she was found guilty of last September in Bayonne Municipal Court. The 79-year-old received the highest penalty for that violation — a $200 fine.
John Ruiu was standing in a Wendy's restaurant located at Lefante Way when a BMW crashed through the buildings front entrance, sending him flying into the wall and then running over him. He was in critical condition for weeks after the accident before ultimately passing away. The driver of the BMW was a 77-year-old woman that investigators say was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

I am extremely shocked, and deeply saddened to learn about this senseless and horrendous loss. I bad no idea that Johnny was involved in this accident and am heartbroken because I had just met him prior to this, and he was always in a happy mood since I have known him and his family since I was a very young child. You will be sorely missed.
