According to police, the family was waiting to cross the street at the corner of Dewitt and Academy terraces in Linden at around 8:30 a.m., when a driver stopped and signaled to the mother to cross. But just as the family stepped into the street, another vehicle drove around the stopped car and struck them. The impact threw the youngest out of her stroller and onto the pavement, police said. Both the mother and the infant were rushed to University Hospital with head injuries.

Jordan Spencer, 34, was pushing her three-month old son in a stroller and walking with her two daughters, ages 2 and 4, when they were struck by a car as they crossed Dewitt Terrace at the intersection of Academy Terrace about 8:30 a.m. police Lt. Michael Babulski said.
The two other children, ages 2 and 4, were not seriously injured. The driver remained at the scene and was taken in for questioning by police, and so far no charges have been filed.
