William H. Eckert III was riding south when he struck the van about 300 feet south of Sycamore Avenue at 2:05 p.m, Shrewsbury Borough police Lt. Adam Cerminaro said. Eckert, of Eatontown, was brought to an area hospital where he died of his injuries.
