In the first accident, which occurred at about 10:30 a.m., a tractor-trailer, driven by Benedict Saint-Louis, 40, of Rahway, was exiting the New Jersey Turnpike at Exit 8A onto Cranbury-South River Road, South Brunswick Police Capt. James Ryan said. The truck made a right onto Route 32 West when its load — 40,000 pounds of syrup — shifted, causing the trailer to split in half. The gas tank ruptured, spilling fuel, Ryan said.
