A 35-year-old borough man died in a motorcycle crash on Rifle Camp Road early Thursday, authorities said. It was unclear what caused the wreck that killed the biker, identified as Nicholas Melendez, according to Detective Sgt. John Uzzalino. Police found Melendez lying on the southbound lanes around 12:30 a.m. after responding to calls of a motorcyclist down, Uzzalino said. His bike was about 40 feet away.
Emergency crews attempted to revive Melendez, but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead a short time later at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson. The medical examiner will conduct toxicology tests.
