The woman told detectives that Edwards then told her to drive him to Albuquerque. The two began arguing and Edwards began driving north on Triviz Drive. Police said the woman tried calling 911, but Edwards allegedly punched her and pulled her hair while they fought over the cellphone.
The two continued fighting when the Jeep approached Stanton Avenue and veered left. The Jeep was then hit on the passenger side by a Ford Ranger that was traveling south. The ranger then crashed into a rock wall, police said.
Edwards fled the scene before police arrived. His ex-girlfriend suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to police. She was airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso for treatment.
