Joanne Schraven, 74, killed, James G. Schraven, 75, injured, after their car was struck at an intersection in Erie County by an SUV driven by Jessica Smehlik, 17.

A two-vehicle crash shortly before noon Saturday at Transit and Casey roads in north Amherst fatally injured an Elma woman.

Joanne Schraven, 74, died later Saturday afternoon in Erie County Medical Center. She was a passenger in a 2009 Honda driven by her husband, James G. Schraven, 75, who was treated in ECMC for back pains, Amherst police said.

While turning onto Casey from Transit, the northbound Honda was struck by a southbound 2011 GMC Suburban driven by Jessica Smehlik, 17, of East Amherst. Smehlik was not injured.
