A 30-year-old man was killed is a car crash Friday morning in the town of Erin.
Charles Wheeler, 45, of Elmira, was the driver who lost control of his vehicle on Federal Road while passing a dump truck in a no-passing zone around 8 am. Wheeler's vehicle then veered off the roadway into multiple trees, killing his passenger, Mathew Carpenter, 30, of Elmira, who was pronounced deceased at the crash site. The investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
