Police said the victim, Edward Jenkins, 43, of the Bronx, had fired a gun at Mejia’s vehicle just before the deadly confrontation, which happened at about 3:30 a.m. at University Avenue and West 176 Street in Morris Heights.
Police took into custody the driver of a minivan following a fatal accident involving a pedestrian in the Bronx on Sunday morning.
According to police, officers responded to an accident involving a pedestrian at University Avenue and West 176 Street in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx at around 3:30 a.m.
Upon arriving on the scene, officers discovered a 43-year-old man in the roadway with severe head trauma.
The victim was taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Following an investigation, police said the victim was crossing University Avenue between West 175 and West 176 streets when a Honda Odyssey minivan, driven by a 25-year-old man, struck the victim.
Police said the driver of the minivan was taken into police custody, but did not elaborate on why.
Police did not release the identity of the victim, pending family notification.
