34 people injured in subway train derailment between 135th Street and 125th Street in Manhattan, New York
The damage was so severe — with about 200 feet of track and multiple signals damaged and mounds of concrete shorn from the walls — that a track worker said it was highly unlikely that regular service along the line could be restored by the end of the day.
Transit officials said previously that it appears the derailment was caused by an improperly secured piece of replacement rail that was stored on the tracks.
Cuomo, speaking at a conference for the MTA Genius Transit Challenge, which is seeking innovative solutions for the city's transit woes, said he's asked Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman Joe Lhota to come up with a reorganization plan in 30 days and an equipment review in 60 days.
