Pedestrian killed on Southern State Parkway after leaving car by exit ramp, police say
A Shirley man was struck and killed Monday on the Southern State Parkway in North Merrick as he was crossing three lanes of traffic after leaving his car by an exit ramp, State Police said. Peter Perri, 56, was hit by a Honda in the left lane of the eastbound parkway shortly after 6 a.m., between exits 23, Meadowbrook Road and 24, Merrick Avenue, said Trooper Frank Bandiero, the agency's spokesman on Long Island.
