An 82-year-old woman was killed Sunday afternoon when the minivan she was riding in crashed and flipped onto its roof in the village of North Syracuse, police said. Geraldine Gardner was pronounced dead at the scene, North Syracuse police said. Gardner was a passenger in a gray Dodge Journey minivan. Dominic Bellardina was driving the minivan north on South Bay Road at 1:44 p.m. Sunday when he crashed into the passenger's side of a white Toyota 4Runner driven by Donald Therre, village police said. Bellardina and Therre were taken to a local hospital, where they are in serious, but stable condition, North Syracuse Village Police Chief Michael Crowell said in a news release. Shortly after the crash, North Syracuse police Officer Jeff Tripp said one vehicle was traveling on Centerville Place and the other on South Bay Road when they collided. He also said that one of the vehicles ran a red light. North Syracuse police have not yet said which driver ran the red light. Both vehicles went over a curb and into a grassy area at the corner of South Bay Road at Church Street. (Centerville Place becomes Church Street after passing the South Bay Road traffic light.) Crowell, the police chief, said in a news release Sunday that "the impact (of the crash) was so severe, both vehicles overturned." The minivan sat upside down, with a blue tarp after the crash as police investigated. The 4Runner was upright, but was damaged and one of its tires had been knocked off and was several feet from the SUV.
