Both girls were seniors at Cortland Junior Senior High School and set to graduate next month, Cortland School District Superintendent Michael Hoose said.
Andrea F. Czimmer, 17, was driving a car on I-81 when the vehicle left the roadway and flipped several times in the grassy median on Friday evening. Czimmer suffered severe head and neck trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. Backseat passenger, Alexis R. Porter, 17, was airlifted her to Upstate University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Front seat passenger Michael Conlon, 18, of Cortland is in fair condition at Upstate University Hospital as of Sunday afternoon.
