Jonathan’s death comes only two days after another Amish child, Sameul Miller, 13, died in Richland after being hit by a vehicle when his sled traveled onto County Route 28.
At approximately 12:40pm, Swartzentruber was walking near Oswego County Route 2 when the wind blew his hat into the roadway. The young boy attempted to retrieve the hat, but ran straight into the pathway of an SUV driven by Ronald S. Smith, 50, who had little time to react, and was struck and pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital. Smith will not be charged in the accident.
