Oswego woman killed in 3-vehicle crash on Thruway

The New York State Police said 29-year-old Joel E. Sitts, of Utica, was heading west on the Thruway in a vehicle. As he approached traffic, which was slowing, Sitts rear-ended a car, causing it to rear-end a third vehicle, state police said. All three vehicles came to rest in the westbound lanes.

Authorities have identified the people killed and injured in a three-vehicle crash Thursday on the New York State Thruway.

Just after 10 a.m. emergency responders were called to the crash[1] on the Thruway at marker 315 westbound in the Seneca County town of Tyre.

The first vehicle hit was occupied by the driver, 72-year-old Clifford L. Wilder, and a passenger, 62-year-old Cathie M. Garrison. Both Wilder and Garrison are from Oswego.

Garrison was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wilder was seriously injured and airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where he is currently listed in good condition.

The third vehicle involved was driven by James A. Golden, 53, of Liverpool. He did not sustain any injuries.

Sitts, who was not injured, was charged with unsafe speed and following too closely, state police said.
