Troopers: Driver killed in Hickory crash(link is external)

A driver was killed in a wreck in Hickory, Troopers confirmed Friday morning. The wreck happened near Lake Hickory in the 4100 block of 6th Street Drive NW. Troopers believe the car went off the road overnight. No names have been released.

College student from High Point killed in weather-related crash in Hickory(link is external)

A 19-year-old college student from the Triad was killed in a weather-related crash in Hickory early Friday. Scalf's car was found wedged between trees about eight hours after the crash, troopers said. The Associated Press, citing troopers, reported Scalf was from High Point. Scalf was the sixth person to die in a weather-related crash in North Carolina since Wednesday. Alcohol may also have been a factor in the crash, troopers said.

Adams said Scalf, a student at Lenoir-Rhyne University, was traveling on 6th Street Drive NW where investigators believe she took a curve too fast causing her vehicle to run off the road and strike a tree.
