The Latest: 1 person dies in wreck on icy N. Carolina road

The death Sunday morning in Montgomery County south of Asheboro is the first reported death from this weekend's winter storm in the state. It is the fourth death from the storm in the U.S., all in vehicle wrecks.

Cooper says two other people in the car were seriously injured when the vehicle slid into a tree on Interstate 73/74. The names of the people killed and injured were not released.

Woman dead, elderly parents in critical condition after Montgomery County crash

The 44-year-old woman was killed in the wreck. Her parents were both airlifted to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill where both are in critical condition.

Cooper: One Killed in Weather-Related Crash in Montgomery County

Cooper said the accident happened Sunday morning when a car skidded off of northbound Interstate 73 in Candor and into a tree due to icy conditions south of Asheboro. A couple from Leland was injured. Their 44-year-old daughter, Olivia Vera, was killed.
