2 teens killed in Harnett County hit-and-run on US 421

Authorities say 13-year-old Jennifer Schark and 16-year-old Kyle Straight were killed, while 14-year-old Steven Daniels is in critical condition at the hospital. Jeff Gordon said in a statement the teens had just bought drinks at a convenience store in Broadway around 11:15 p.m. Troopers are looking for evidence at the scene and reviewing surveillance cameras from nearby businesses to determine the make and model of the vehicle. Highway Patrol Lt. Saturday and were walking home when they were hit.

Investigators also are looking at security video from the convenience store and nearby homes for clues and a better description of the truck. "I know that we're going to miss her very much," said Janice Schark, Jennafer Schark's mother. The group was heading home after walking to a convenience store about a half-mile from Strait's home, where they had spent the evening, to get some late-night snacks. She said the white pickup came up behind the group and swerved into them before speeding off. Jennafer Schark, 13, and Kyle Strait, 16, both of Broadway, were walking with two other teens along U.S. Highway 421 near Broadway when they were hit by a pickup at about 11 p.m.
