Troopers said the driver who died was not wearing a seat belt.
A 21-year-old driver was killed in a head-on collision early Sunday in Knightdale while driving on Smithfield Road. He crossed the center line and hit another vehicle near Joyful Lane. The driver died at the scene, and the passenger and driver of the other car were brought to WakeMed to treat their injuries.
