RALEIGH — A 20-year-old Cary man died Thursday afternoon when his car, being driven by an 18-year-old woman who police said they suspect was driving impaired, went off Interstate 40, rolled over and slammed into a tree at about 60 mph.

Chase Morgan Rodgers of 101 Butterwood Court was riding in the right, front seat of his 2001 Toyota when it ran off the right side of eastbound I-40 between Trenton and Trinity roads shortly before 5 p.m., a police accident report said.

Anastaysia Katherine Bergeron, 18, of 100 Twiddy Lane in Bunn Level was driving the car, police said, and they said she was issued a provisional citation for driving while impaired by something other than alcohol.

The accident report said the results of drug tests were pending.

Bergeron and Christian Michael Miller, 18, of 1126 Ivy Lane in Cary, who was sitting without a seat belt in the middle of the back seat, were seriously injured, the report said.

Accident investigators estimated the Toyota was going 73 mph when it went off the highway and 61 mph when it hit the tree.

The car left almost 200 feet of skid marks, the investigators said.
