Driver killed in I-40 wreck was traveling in reverse

Officials said a Honda passenger vehicle was traveling in reverse on Interstate 40 early Sunday morning when another car crashed into it, killing the Honda's driver. A 2010 Honda was being driven by a 39-year-old Hispanic male on I-40 at Old Reedy Creek Road, which is near Aviation Parkway, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The Honda was traveling in reverse when a white Chevrolet passenger vehicle crashed into it just before 3 a.m. A passenger in the Honda was transported to Wake Medical Center with minor injuries, and both the driver and passenger in the Chevy were transported to Duke University Medical Center with minor injuries. Investigators believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash, though it's unclear why the driver of the Honda was traveling in reverse.

His wife's cousin told him it all happened so fast, all she saw was reverse lights then the air bag deployed. He's set up a GoFundMe page to help support their family. Both are former military.
