Driver charged with DWI, Hit & Run after reportedly causing crash

Wilmington Police officers arrested Joseph Graham Merritt early Saturday morning after he reportedly caused a crash and left the scene. The other driver involved was able to get a partial tag number which helped officers to identify a potential suspect vehicle. WPD officers and UNCW police officers were checking the area around Racine Drive and located the likely suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle then apparently caused a crash in the 500 block of Wooster Street and then allegedly left the scene. According to the police report, officers received several similar 911 calls earlier Friday evening for a young man driving an older white Ford Taurus.
