The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the child wasn't properly secured in a minivan and was thrown from the vehicle when it was struck by a car that was northbound on Highway 281.

According to the report, a Toyota was heading north on highway 281 and attempted to turn west onto 77th Street Northeast.
A Pontiac, which Eugene was in tried to pass through the intersection when it was hit by the Toyota and ended up in a ditch.
