Victims of double-fatal head-on crash in Mandan identified

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) - The Highway Patrol has identified two women who died in a head-on crash on the Bismarck Expressway in Mandan. The crash shut down the highway for about four hours. The patrol says charges are pending against the 28-year-old Bismarck man who was driving the pickup. Twenty-two-year-old Abby Renschler of Lincoln and 21-year-old Taylor Goven of Mandan were passengers in a car that the patrol says was hit head-on by a pickup traveling the wrong way in the highway's west-bound lane shortly before 1:30 a.m.

ND man charged in crash that killed 2 pleads not guilty

A Bismarck man charged in connection with a head-on crash that killed two people has pleaded not guilty. The Bismarck Tribune reports 28-year-old Jordan Morsette entered pleas Tuesday to two counts of criminal vehicular homicide and one count of criminal vehicular injury. The passengers were identified as 22-year-old Abby Renschler of Lincoln and 21-year-old Taylor Goven of Mandan. Authorities say the pickup collided with a car, killing two passengers inside the car. The North Dakota Highway Patrol says Morsette was intoxicated while driving a pickup the wrong way on the Bismarck Expressway on June 27 when the incident occurred.

Change of plea in fatal car crash scheduled for Monday

There is no plea agreement, and the judge will choose the sentence, according to Goter, who said Morsette faces a 10-year minimum sentence on each of the two homicide counts and a two-year minimum on the injury charge, due to a prior DUI conviction, she said.

Morsette's attorney, Jodi Colling, said her client decided to plead guilty, because, after reviewing the evidence, it made more sense to accept responsibility. Also, Morsette did not want to put the families through a trial, she said.
