Mattie J. Quellen Stubbs killed in hit and run accident, Shamanique Bryant arrested for vehicular homicide.

A 24-year-old Cleveland woman, thrown from a car early this morning during a hit-and-run accident, was later run over by the vehicle when its driver returned to the scene, Cleveland police said.
Mattie J. Quellen Stubbs was pronounced dead near the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Coltman Road around 3 a.m. Police said Shamanique Bryant, the driver of the car Stubbs was riding in, was arrested for aggravated vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of the accident. They said in a release that driving while intoxicated charges will likely be added.

Police did not say if Stubbs was still alive when she was run over.

Police said Bryant, 28, was speeding while driving a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero recklessly westbound on Euclid Avenue when she rear-ended another car. The impact threw Stubbs, sitting in the front passenger seat, out of the car.

Police said Bryant continued along Euclid, then stopped to perform CPR on a man in the back seat of the Alero. Police said the man had been shot in the abdomen earlier in the night at an East Cleveland club.

Eventually, Bryant headed back to the spot of the accident, running over Stubbs.

East Cleveland police said Bryant's backseat passenger was shot in an incident outside the Park Avenue Night Club, at Euclid and Taylor roads. Police said by the time they got to the club, the victim had gotten into the Alero and the car was gone.

Bryant and her male passenger were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Police said three people in the car that was rear-ended also were taken to MetroHealth with non life-threatening injuries.
