Fatal boat accident victim identified in Oklahoma

A man killed in a boating accident in Rogers County last week has been identified by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Authorities say one man drowned after he was thrown from his fishing boat on Claremore Lake.

The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office say two men were fishing Thursday when their boat starting spinning out of control. Police say both men were thrown from the boat.

Authorities say one man was rescued but the second man, later identified as Jonathon McClure, 19, drowned.

Investigators are now trying to determine what caused the boat to spin out of control. Rogers County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Coy Jenkins says investigators don’t yet know whether there was a mechanical failure or if the boat ran into something in the water.

The man who survived is in stable condition at a Claremore hospital.
