Troopers say the wreck was caused when the 72-year-old Hobbs failed to yield.
Richard D. Beattie, 82, from Locust Grove, was killed in a car crash near Chouteau in Mayes County. The two-vehicle collision happened around 2:00 p.m. Friday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 412 and 412B, when Jimmie Ray Hobbs, from Vilonia, Arkansas, failed to yield at the stop sign on southbound 412B. Beattie was pinned in his wrecked vehicle for about 30 minutes before being extricated by Chouteau firefighters. He was pronounced deceased at a Tulsa hospital. Jimmie Ray Hobbs was admitted to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition.
