"Something has to be done. Too many people have been killed here," said 44-year-old Julianna Bjurling, who lives nearby and said she knew the woman and children.

This is not the first fatal car crash in the area. Last December, Daniel Ortiz-Raynaga was killed by a hit and run driver while walking with his son.

The driver told investigators he saw a green light as he approached the intersection, but several witnesses have reported the driver ran a red light.

Three children ages 4 through 8 were killed and their mother critically injured when they were struck by a pickup truck Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Oregon. The family was crossing Main Street near 54th Street just before 5 p.m. when they were struck. The woman was transported to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. The pickup driver cooperated with investigators and was taken to a police station, but no charges have been filed. Police urge anyone who witnessed the crash to call the Springfield Police Department and speak with Officer Brian Antone at (541) 726-3714.
