Seven people killed in crash involving semi trucks on Interstate 5 near Albany, Oregon

Seven people were killed and multiple others hurt in a crash involving several vehicles on Thursday, May 18, along Interstate 5 in an agricultural area of western Oregon, police said.

I-5 northbound is closed at the crash site and drivers are being detoured. The crash involved one passenger vehicle and two semi trucks, police said.

Lincoln Clayton Smith, 52, of North Highlands, California, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, manslaughter and assault, police said.

The Oregon State Police on Monday released the names of the seven people who died and the four who were injured when a semitruck left Interstate 5 and slammed into a van carrying the workers as it was parked on the roadside near Albany, an agricultural area of the Willamette Valley.
