1 person killed, 2 injured in Washington County crash

Investigators said a Ford Crown Victoria traveling northbound on SW Roy Rogers Road came over the hill and was in the opposite lane. Then, the car hit a southbound Nissan Sentra head-on that was carrying two people, according to Sgt. Bob Ray with the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The driver in the northbound car, identified as Cristopher Michels, 41, of Lafayette, died at the scene. The two people in the Nissan were taken to Oregon Health and Science University with serious injuries. They were identified as Maria Cervantes-Acero, 66, of Newberg, and her 19-year-old grandson David Gonzales-Cervantes.  Ray said their injuries did not seem to be life-threatening. Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused Michels to cross the center line.
