Astoria Police Chief Deputy Brad Johnston said such accidents happen occasionally because officers "have a lot of distractions on the dash."

White was in the crosswalk when O'Conner struck her while making a left turn. Apparently the trooper was distracted by a bicyclist whose intentions he was trying to determine. Fortunately, White sustained only minor injuries.
