A 64-year-old truck driver died after a crash on Interstate 84 in Hood River. Oregon State Police
Authorities have released the name of the truck driver who died in a crash early Friday morning on Interstate 84 in Hood River.
The 2004 Freightliner truck pulling an empty container trailer was heading west on Interstate 84 near milepost 63 when it drifted to the left and hit a guardrail on the south side of the highway.
The truck and the trailer continued west into the center median before crashing into a tree. The tree split, partially blocking the left eastbound lane.
The driver, Melvin Roy Schwark, 64, of Lyle, Wash., was pronounced dead at the scene.
Oregon State Police is investigating the crash, and authorities are looking into the possibility that Schwark suffered a medical emergency while driving.
