Man in critical condition after semi truck and pickup crash on Northwest Cornelius Pass Road.

A Semi-truck crashed with a pickup truck and rolled along Northwest Cornelius Pass Road Thursday afternoon, spilling a load of lumber and forcing the closure of the busy roadway.

The driver of the pickup truck was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to officials at the scene.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. in the area commonly called the tunnel curves. Northwest Cornelius Pass Road was closed between Highway 30 and Northwest Skyline Boulevard after the crash.

Crews said it will not reopen until after the evening commute. Traffic was being detoured onto alternate routes, including Highway 26 and Northwest Cornell Road. Highway 217 is the alternate route for trucks carrying hazardous loads.
