Multiple crashes close portions of Interstate 5 between Salem and Eugene.
Weather-related accidents have snarled Interstate 5 between Salem and Eugene early Friday morning.
Oregon State Police responded to multiple crashes on I-5 between Salem and Eugene due to hazardous road conditions. The trouble begins with ice and snow, which covers the surface of roadways at depths of between 2 and 5 inches.
Also a problem, OR 126, Florence-Eugene Highway, remains closed roughly 4 miles east of Mapleton in Lane County. That's where a semi overturned earlier this morning. Tow vehicles are attempting to right the vehicle as of 10:45 a.m. That highway is expected to remain closed until noon or even later.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes, expect significant delays -- or put off travel.

If you must hit the roads, drivers are encouraged to keep an extra flashlight, food and water in the vehicle, in case of emergency.
OSP encourages all motorists to drive cautiously and plan ahead for winter weather driving conditions.
Meanwhile, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued a winter storm warning that runs until 4 p.m. for the south Willamette Valley.
