Small plane crashes at Salem Airport

SALEM, Ore. -- The Police Department is on the scene of a fatal plane crash on the grounds of the Salem Airport. Salem Police and Fire Departments received calls at approximately 8:26 am of a plane crash north of the runway on the Salem airport grounds. Witnesses reported that a small plane was attempting to takeoff northbound when it crashed north of the runway and burst into flames. The flames were extinguished quickly by fire units and it was determined that there is at least one deceased victim in the plane. The identity of the victim is unknown at this time, and we are currently awaiting the arrival of the NTSB for further investigation.
