John Rineer Jr., 66, killed, after he is struck by a car, while picking up debris that had fallen off his trailer, on State Route 222 near West Earl Township.

A man was killed after being hit by a car on Route 222 in Lancaster County Thursday night. The accident happened around 8:20 p.m. near the Cocalico Creek Bridge. Police said the victim, John Rineer Jr., 66, of Ephrata, got out of his car after something fell off the trailer he was towing. He was struck when he went to pick up the debris. Rineer was taken to Lancaster General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police said the driver who struck him is a woman from New Jersey. There is no word on whether she will be charged.
