Downed power lines closed a road in Swatara Township in Lebanon County for more than an hour after an SUV crashed into a utility pole earlier Wednesday, state police said. Neither the 17-year-old female driver nor the 16-year-old male passenger of the 1998 Ford Ranger were seriously injured in the crash, which police said took place around 9 a.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of Greble Road in Lebanon. The red sport utility vehicle left the right side of the road while traveling west on Greble Road due to snow and icy conditions on the road, according to a state police report filed from Jonestown. The vehicle struck a rail fence at 556 Greble Road, then barreled into a Met-Ed utility pole before coming to a rest in a nearby yard, the report states. Live power lines were hanging in the road, when state police and other first responders arrived, but utility crews were able to repair the damaged pole and fix the wires within an hour and a half, according to police. The driver and the passenger, both Lebanon residents, were wearing their seat belts and, despite suffering several minor injuries, declined treatment at the scene, police said. The vehicle was towed from the scene, and the stretch of Greble Road between Route 343 and South Center Street was reopened, police said. The driver was not being charged in relation to the crash as of Wednesday afternoon, according to state police.
