Identities confirmed of three men who died after crashing into icy lake

“I never heard nothing like this happening before out here,” said local resident Chris Hoffmaster. “If there wasn’t ice there, they probably could have just stoop up and walked out of it.”

Huntingdon crash victims identified

With the use of submersible video equipment, their bodies were found under the ice a short distance from the truck.
At around 1:30 Sunday afternoon in Huntingdon County, Donald Casner, 69, of Huntingdon, lost control of a pickup he was driving around a curve in the roadway, hit the bank, and flipped upside down through the ice on Camp Blue Diamond Lake. Emergency responsers initially discovered only 58-year-old Dennie Kern of Petersburg inside the cab. Kern is an intellectually disabled man who is unable to drive, which prompted emergency responders to return to the scene to search for more victims. At this point, the bodies of the two other victims, Casner and Robert Byers, 33, were found after a search about 50 feet from the vehicle, trapped under the ice in water that was only two feet deep.
