Woman flown to trauma center after three-vehicle crash in Franklin County

Relying on witness accounts, state police determined the crash was caused by a vehicle driving south on Route 11 that ran a red light and collided with another vehicle that entered the intersection on a green light from Loop Road.
A woman was flown to a York County trauma center, after a three-vehicle crash Wednesday on Route 11 in Chambersburg, state police said. The crash was reported at 5:28 p.m. at the intersection of Route 11/Molly Pitcher Highway and Loop Road in Franklin County, according to a state police news release. Relying on witness accounts, state police determined the crash was caused by a vehicle driving south on Route 11 that ran a red light and collided with another vehicle that entered the intersection on a green light from Loop Road. After the initial intersection, both vehicles struck a third vehicle in the northbound lanes of Route 11 that was stopped at the red light at the other end of the intersection, police said. The driver of the striking vehicle, a 44-year-old Greencastle woman, was flown to York Hospital's trauma center for treatment. The exact extent of her injuries and her status was unknown as of Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the driver of the second vehicle struck in the intersection, identified only as a 53-year-old Chambersburg woman, was taken by ambulance to the nearby Chambersburg Hospital for treatment, police said. The driver of the third vehicle, a 34-year-old St. Thomas man, was not injured, according to the release. Police determined that the driver of the striking vehicle was at fault for failing to stop at a red light, and charges were pending against the woman as of Wednesday night.
